The PWD (People With Diabetes) Council prioritises the voices and needs of a diverse group of people with diabetes. Using personal experiences, we can identify gaps that require further research and support from the American Diabetes Association (ADA). If chosen, members will attend quarterly Zoom meetings to assist the ADA in identifying gaps in diabetes research, discuss possible diabetes research topics, and receive research and communication training to promote ADA research and programmes at external events. I helped create the “pilot” group in 2021. Since then, the PWD Council has been operating and influencing ADA research. Group members also receive insider access to the Scientific Sessions and insights from the VP of Research at the ADA.
I am attending medical school at Loma Linda University in hopes of becoming an endocrinologist! I have had type 1 diabetes since 2018 and am currently employed with the ADA as a camp director for a summer camp for kids with diabetes.
