The biggest issue in Uruguay regarding diabetes is the distribution of insulin pumps to the most vulnerable populations without providing adequate nutritional education. Because they lack the necessary information, many people stop treatment. The objective of the project “Pumping Uruguay correctly” is to work individually with people living with diabetes and their families — and provide materials and support — to improve the uptake of diabetes treatment. The vision is to reach as much of the population as possible, which is feasible given Uruguay’s small size and the urgent need for diabetes education.
