In Ecuador, medical education focuses on type 2 diabetes. The result is healthcare professionals who are unprepared in the treatment of people with type 1 diabetes. My project trained final year medical students in good practices on pharmacological and non-pharmacological measures for type 1 diabetes. This includes nutritional measures, the importance of glycaemic control, proper administration of insulin, differential diagnosis with other types of diabetes, detection of diabetes in the community and how to act against the most common complications.
