Zealdaily Diabetes aims to support people living with diabetes in rural areas of the Limpopo Province. This project will provide support through advocacy and a self-management programme in collaboration with the provincial Department of Health. The programme will build support groups in provincial hospitals and clinics within the community and allow us to understand better the challenges people face in these communities, such as technological barriers. In turn, we can develop and implement a diabetes self-management model for education and ongoing support.
As a diabetes advocate in South Africa, I was diagnosed with diabetes in 2006 and have been living with the condition for 17 years. It was a struggle for me, mainly because I was diagnosed young and didn’t know anyone else in my community with diabetes. So I started using social media in 2018 to connect with more people. I am also a Dedoc voice and use my passion for advocacy to address access and affordability issues for people with diabetes. I am currently studying law and plan to become a health lawyer.
