Despite improvements in diabetes care and management worldwide over the past century, major challenges remain, specifically in low- and middle-income countries. Hundreds of people and organisations are raising awareness and advocating for better access and quality diabetes care. However, many still need help to make their voices heard. As the President of Meethi Zindagi, an organisation that provides healthcare to underprivileged children with type 1 diabetes in Pakistan, and the husband of a person with type 1 diabetes, I have an in-depth understanding of the challenges people with diabetes and their caregivers face. I strongly believe in the fundamental human right to access healthcare and enjoy a good quality of life. The Blue Circle Voices advocacy network is a global platform representing us all. With over ten years of professional experience in public policy and working with provincial governments, I aim to advocate for policies that improve access to diabetes care and eliminate social stigma to create a supportive environment for all people with diabetes. As an active representative of the Blue Circle Voices network, I aim to collaborate with fellow regional and global advocates to drive impactful change, raise awareness, and support initiatives that align with IDF’s mission and resonate with the ideology of the Blue Circle itself.
