As a carer for my mother who lives with diabetes, I know the demands of managing this condition. Being a carer has given me a unique perspective and a deep appreciation for the challenges carers for people with diabetes face. By joining the Blue Circle Voices network, I aim to use my skills and knowledge to contribute to preventing and managing diabetes and cardiovascular disease (CVD) in India and beyond.
As a medical scientist at the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)-National Institute of Epidemiology (NIE) in Chennai, I have a strong background in medicine and public health. I conduct and implement research in public primary health care facilities in India that address equitable and quality care for diabetes and CVD. I also volunteer as a physician for Nalatham Charitable Trust in Chennai, which champions the noble cause of access to healthcare for people in low-income areas. I offer pro bono services to this trust by treating patients with NCDs such as diabetes, hypertension and CVD. I also organise screening camps across Tamil Nadu, primarily in rural areas. At these camps, at-risk patients receive support in accessing essential healthcare services.
