I have come a long way since being diagnosed at age 11 with type 1 diabetes, PCOD and chronic depression. Life has been a rollercoaster for me as I grew from a child with low self-esteem who was bullied and hid her condition for 7 years to a woman who owns her life as a diabetes advocate, fighting for people with diabetes.
Today, I am a 24-year-old diabetes advocate who has been living with diabetes for 13 years. Life has seemed like a constant battle —a never-ending cycle of blood sugar checks, insulin injections, and carefully monitoring my diet. It has been challenging, frustrating, and at times overwhelming. But through all the struggles and challenges, I realise that my life is better in countless ways. This experience has built in me a passion to advocate for the rights of people with diabetes.
My drive for diabetes advocacy knows no bounds. From organising awareness-raising campaigns to global action days to facilitating diabetes camps, I am always on the go. Joining the BCV network allows me to bring forward the issues people in my community face and join hands internationally to build comprehensive and effective practices to improve the lives of people with diabetes and prevent diabetes in those at risk. It is time to unite our community and advocate for type 1 diabetes education, awareness and rights with affordable and integrated healthcare for a better future.
