The title of Fellow of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF Fellow) is an honorary title awarded to healthcare professionals working in the in the field of diabetes. IDF Fellows may be called upon to participate in the activities of the Federation, from conferences and research to education and advocacy.
The goals of the IDF Fellowship programme are to:
- Foster a global community of diabetes experts to promote knowledge exchange and help strengthen the global diabetes response.
- Enhance the knowledge, skills and career prospects of healthcare professionals currently working in diabetes.
- Acknowledge the contributions of exceptional medical and allied healthcare professionals who are, or have recently been, active in the field of diabetes or related disciplines.
Categories
Our Fellowship Programme comprises two categories:
- Senior Fellow: A prestigious fellowship for professionals with 15+ years of experience in the medical sector. This is highly selective, with applications open all year but selection made twice a year.
- Fellow: Designed for early and mid-career professionals, this category provides more flexibility with an ongoing application and selection process.

Eligibility Criteria
Senior Fellow
The criteria for becoming a Senior Fellow of the International Diabetes Federation involves a rigorous selection process that evaluates the candidate’s notable contributions, groundbreaking research, influential publications, and overall impact on advancing knowledge and innovation in diabetes care and management. All applications are reviewed by the IDF Fellowship Committee.
Application is open to Clinical Practitioners, Nurses/Allied Health Professionals and Scientific Researchers who have distinguished themselves in the field of diabetes.
Becoming an IDF Senior Fellow requires a two-year commitment and a subscription payment. This will only be required once the application has been approved by the Fellowship Committee.

The fee for becoming an IDF Senior Fellow can either be paid in full or split over two calendar years. The fee varies by country and by category.

The Fellow category is open to all Clinical Practitioners, Nurses/Allied Health Professionals and Scientific Researchers working in the field of diabetes, with a minimum of one year’s professional experience.
