Hello! My name is Benjamin Mafale, from Zambia in South-Central Africa, and I have lived with type 1 diabetes since 2016. In Zambia, around 726,000 people live with diabetes, and 1,600 live with type 1 diabetes.
As a medical professional and a member of the Blue Circle Voices (BCV), I believe effective communication can give a voice to everyone who wants to advocate for those living with and impacted by diabetes.
By participating in campaigns and events, we can uplift the lives of people affected by diabetes and promote innovative treatments and research. Within local communities, we can also raise awareness of diabetes management and prevention, access to diabetes care, and provide emotional support for mental well-being. BCV members work as a team, with lived experience and perspectives, to raise awareness, educate, support and build community.
