Over the last 40 years, I have managed the highs and lows of my diabetes to keep myself alive. I have several diabetes complications: eye, kidney and peripheral vascular disease and nerve damage. I was destroyed emotionally by the mental challenges of coping with an amputation, regaining my independence, and not being a burden to others. These experiences have made the prevention of diabetes complications, access to better care and understanding of diabetes my drivers.

In addition, losing my whole family to diabetes complications made me determined to offer care through peer support groups. Over the last 30 years, I have been working with the diabetes community in my area to better educate people on the condition and give peer support. My first-hand knowledge has allowed me to make a difference and cope with changes. Making a difference and motivating people with diabetes to cope with their condition and complications worldwide is an honour I would love to continue as a Blue Circle Voice.
