I founded the Diabetes Youth Committee under the auspices of the Bahrain Diabetes Society with four other diabetes advocates. The goal is to establishcommunities for people with diabeteswhere they can find psychosocial support.
I am a high school psychology teacher and plan to pursue my degree in Clinical Psychology this autumn. I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at two. Through my studies, advocacy and experiences, I hope to further my understanding of the importance of psychosocial factors and their crucial role in diabetes management. My advocacy and research interest are the psychological factors involved in diabetes management, including spirituality, culture and emotional competence. I aspire to help build communities that serve as a platform for belonging and connection among people living with type 1 diabetes and to help them use effective coping strategies for the emotional burdens associated with diabetes management.
