My project,IgniteD, is an initiative to use the true force and power of Anganwadi workers who focus on the health and educational needs of underprivileged children in rural areas. The Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) are a part of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Scheme, a centrally sponsored government scheme in India. IgniteD tackles the deeply entrenched stigma surrounding diabetes in rural areas. By educating these workers on type 1 diabetes and management, they can increase community awareness of the condition in India. On average, an Anganwadi worker serves a population of 100-500 people. So, by educating one woman, we can educate the whole tribe to make a difference and bring about much-needed change.
My main driving factor is the passion, a palpable passion to help and improve the lives people living with Type 1 Diabetes. When I think about my own journey, I can see how my passion was ignited, fuelled and intensified as a result of my personal experiences. Joining BCV network isn’t just about advocacy, it’s about igniting change, one voice at a time. By turning challenges into opportunities, stigma into understanding, and barriers into bridges, I’ll navigate a path towards a world where access to care is a right, discrimination is a thing of the past, and early screening is a norm, not an exception.
By becoming a part of the Blue circle voices network, I can leverage my experiences, insights and perspectives to advocate for policies and initiatives that align with the IDF’s mission. I am committed to advocating for affordable insulin, essential supplies, and advanced technologies to ensure that no one is left behind in their diabetes management journey. Furthermore, I’m eager to contribute to the fight against discrimination faced by individuals with diabetes, advocating for greater awareness, understanding, and inclusivity in all aspects of the society. Additionally, I’m passionate about promoting early screening and diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes to facilitate timely intervention and improve health outcomes.
In summary, joining the BCV network will enable me to be a proactive advocate for Type 1 diabetes, aligning with IDF’s mission to promote access to care, fight discrimination and promote, early screening. I am dedicated to leveraging my voice and experiences to drive positive change and improve the lives of individuals living with Type 1 diabetes worldwide.
