My project, IgniteD, is an initiative to use the true force and power of Anganwadi workers who focus on the health and educational needs of underprivileged children in rural areas. The Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) are a part of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Scheme, a centrally sponsored government scheme in India. IgniteD tackles the deeply entrenched stigma surrounding diabetes in rural areas. By educating these workers on type 1 diabetes and management, they can increase community awareness of the condition in India. On average, an Anganwadi worker serves a population of 100-500 people. So, by educating one woman, we can educate the whole tribe to make a difference and bring about much-needed change. Â
