The voices of people with lived experience of diabetes

Jean Claude Ndayizeye (Rwanda)

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in  2019. I was surprised because no one in my family had the condition. I hid from my diagnosis, running from the stress and anxiety. As a refugee wrought by so many challenges to stay alive, my situation worsened until I ended up in hospital.

Pilar Martinez Gimeno (Spain)

I have been living with type 1 diabetes since 1977. In fact, in my family, many people live with the condition. Throughout my diabetes journey, I have followed every advancement in diabetes treatment, from glass syringes, bovine, porcine, and human insulin to the most recent types.

Jasser Romero Cuadra (Nicaragua)

When Andres Enrique was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, we set out to learn everything about the condition. Unfortunately, we had to get most of our information from outside Nicaragua. We want to make Nicaragua more visible so that families receive up-to-date education on type 1 diabetes.
