Date and time: 28 May 2024, 18:00-20:00 (CEST)
Location: Online

Uninterrupted access to quality and affordable care is critical to the well-being of people living with diabetes. However, achieving full well-being requires more than access to care.

The International Diabetes Federation, recognising the crucial role of well-being beyond mere access to care, hosted the hybrid event “Diabetes and well-being: more than access to care” during the 77th World Health Assembly in Geneva on 28 May from 18:00 to 20:00 CEST.

At this IDF side event, you learnt how the WHO Global Diabetes Compact can contribute to achieving positive physical and mental well-being for people with diabetes.

This event aimed to:

  • highlight the different aspects of wellbeing.
  • showcase Member States’ initiatives to support the physical, societal and mental well-being of citizens with diabetes.
  • illustrate the potential of the WHO Global Diabetes Compact to improve the well-being of people living with diabetes by 2030.
  • underscore the critical role people living with diabetes and diabetes associations play in overcoming barriers and promoting well-being.

A diverse panel, including people living with diabetes, institutional representatives, healthcare professionals, and philanthropic foundations, explored the challenges to physical and mental well-being for people with diabetes and their role in promoting well-being for people with the condition.

Panel speakers included:

  • Hon Kailesh Kumar Singh Jagutpal, Minister of Health and Wellness of Mauritius
  • Dr Mohammed Al Thani, Director of NCD Prevention Programmes, Ministry of Public Health of Qatar
