Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2000.
Member of YLD since 2014 (YLD Candidate).
I am Alessio Liguori from Frattamaggiore, Italy. I am 22 years old and I've been living with Type 1 diabetes for the past 15 years. I'm currently studying law at the University of Naples. I am a football player and captain of the Italian team for people with diabetes. Since I was a child, thanks to the activism of my parents, I joined a lot of summer camps and since I was 18 years old I started being active in ANIAD (Associazione Nazionale Italiana Atleti Diabetici) that is a Member of IDF. I joined the YLD programme for the first time in 2014 in Zagreb (Croatia) and then in 2015 in Vancouver (Canada). I have been the president of the ANIAD Campania, one of the 10 member association of ANIAD since June 2016.
My project: The primary objective of my project was to introduce people with diabetes to sport and make them understand how physical activity is important in managing diabetes. The project lasted three months and involved young people from all over Italy. Within the next year, I would like to create a futsal team for people with diabetes and participate in the regional championship of this sport.
