The 2026 International Women’s Day theme, “Give to Gain,” draws attention to the far-reaching effects of women’s contributions. In the context of diabetes care, when women are supported and empowered, their expertise and leadership strengthen prevention efforts and expand equitable access to quality care, particularly in under-resourced communities.
Across the world, women are central to health and diabetes care. They are caregivers, health workers, researchers, advocates, and community leaders. Every day, women give their time, knowledge, labour and lived experience to support families, communities, and healthcare systems. These contributions are often informal, unpaid and unacknowledged, yet they have a lasting impact on health outcomes across generations.
IDF is organising an online event to explore what “Give to Gain” means for women diabetes advocates worldwide. Together, advocates will examine how individual acts of advocacy, education and leadership can lead to collective gains. They will reflect on their experiences, highlighting the challenges they face and the impact of their contributions at the community, national and global levels.
