Epidemiological data strengthen our understanding of the global impact of diabetes and lead to effective strategies to support healthcare professionals in preventing and treating diabetes and related complications.
This online event organised by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) is an opportunity to learn about the new IDF Diabetes Atlas estimates, available resources and how to use the Atlas data for advocacy activities.
For 25 years, the IDF Diabetes Atlas has been a source of trusted, evidence-based data on diabetes frequency and serves as a valuable advocacy tool for the world diabetes community.
According to the IDF Diabetes Atlas 11th edition, diabetes prevalence in 2024 was estimated to be 11.10%, which indicates that the condition affects more than one in nine adults worldwide. The number of adults with diabetes was estimated to be 589 million in 2024, rising to 853 million in the next 25 years.
The IDF Diabetes Atlas provides data on diabetes, diabetes healthcare expenses and mortality. Diabetes in adults, type 1 diabetes, prediabetes and gestational diabetes impact is presented by country, IDF region and globally. It is available free of charge on a user-friendly website, where you will find a selection of resources, including a data portal, a printable PDF version, global and regional factsheets, a power point slide deck and more!
