The 51st ISPAD 2025 Annual Conference in Montreal, Canada, from 5-8 November, showcased strong collaboration on diabetes education in schools while providing a powerful platform for advancing global efforts to support children and young people living with diabetes. The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) witnessed the growing momentum of its Kids and Diabetes in Schools (KiDS) programme, which aims to bring diabetes education into schools to fight diabetes-related stigma and preventable risk factors of type 2 diabetes by promoting healthy habits.
IDF reported high engagement throughout the week, as its exhibitor booth attracted sustained interest from healthcare professionals, educators and advocates. The popularity of the KiDS resources reflected the growing demand for high-quality educational materials that support young people living with diabetes.
Kyle Jacques Rose, IDF Vice President and Co-Chair of the IDF Committee on Youth Activities, joined the IDF team to present the KiDS Programme during ISPAD’s Special Interest Group for Diabetes in Schools (SIGDIS) session chaired by Dr Luis Eduardo Calliari, a paediatric endocrinologist and Professor at Santa Casa School of Medical Sciences, São Paulo, Brazil,
The session underscored the productive collaboration between IDF, ISPAD and wider partners to develop age-appropriate educational tools that reduce stigma, strengthen understanding of diabetes management and empower children and adolescents to stay healthy.
Overall, the conference reaffirmed the essential role of coordinated international action in improving the lives of people living with diabetes and emphasised the value of partnerships dedicated to raising awareness, reducing discrimination and building more supportive communities worldwide.
