The IDF Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Region includes 21 countries and territories, currently representing 29 diabetes organisations.
Over the past three decades, major social and economic changes have transformed many of the countries in the IDF Middle East and North Africa Region (MENA). Some Gulf States such as United Arab Emirates (UAE) or Qatar have undergone rapid economic growth and urbanization, associated with reduced infant mortality and increasing life expectancy. Other countries in the Region have seen a decrease in economic growth due to dramatic political changes.
According to the IDF Diabetes Atlas 9th Edition, approximately 54.8 million adults aged 20-79 years were living with diabetes in the MENA region in 2019. Close to half (44.7%) of these cases were undiagnosed.
